I will be hosting Dr. Jon Benstead from the University of Alabama for our EEB seminar this week on Thursday, 3 March 2011 in Franlin Auditorium at 3:30pm. Jon’s talk is titled “Seasonal changes in the structure and function of a spring-fed stream ecosystem in arctic Alaska.” Jon is a freshwater ecologist with relatively broad research interests and experience, with a focus on stoichiometric relationships in ecology, particularly the role of coupled cycles of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus in food webs and ecosystem-level processes. To examine stoichiometric linkages, he combines classic bio-energetic methods for quantifying energy acquisition and flow with an explicit stoichiometric perspective on nitrogen and phosphorus availability and demand. Please refer to his website as well for further information (http://bama.ua.edu/~jbenstead/Home.html). If you would like to meet with Jon on Thursday, please let me know by Wednesday (email@example.com).
